GENERAL NOTE:
David M T MORCOM met George Luxford MORCOM in South Africa on 15th September 1942, and noted that George was born in the Transvaal, had served in the Army in World War I in Germany, France and UK (he was on Salisbury Plains in 1919 and at Shoreham-on-Sea). George's grandfather (i.e. Peter's father] was probably from Northumberland and emigrated to Australia. Peter's parents died when he was about two, and Peter was bought up by friends {NB Anne did not die until Peter was about 8]. Peter was a cabinet maker and later in 'mining construction' in Western Australia, near Adelaide and in South Africa. George mentioned that his mother, Jane BOULTON, had flown to Australia [This would have been in the 1930's]. David MT MORCOM also mentions a Lewis (who had 2 daughters named Joyce and Ruth). David does not belong to the same branch of the MORCOMs as George. David had made rough notes at the time of the 1942 meeting but only reread them about 50 years later. Ambiguities in the rough notes initially resulted in my making some incorrect assumptions about relationships in the South African family. When the notes are re-interpreted, in the light of the information from Peter J MORCOM, then there is broad agreement between the two accounts. There is a story handed down among the Canadian descendants of James that he had an ancestor who was deported to Australia as a horse thief. However this could refer to the an ancestor of the wife of James. I have not found a record of a MORCOM being deported or of MORCOMs being in Northumberland early in the nineteenth century
