He and several others are named as lessees in a lease of certain coal mines in Soughton near Mold, Flintshire, dated 5 April 1839. In this document he is described as 'of Mold, engineer'.Pantglas probably refers to a hamlet about 0.5 mile south of Gwernaffield, Mold. Rhydymwyn foundry was established in 1837 to serve the lead mines in the Alyn valley between Rhydymwyn and Loggerheads. The foundry was moved in 1862 to Sandycroft on Deeside."Not known if this has a connection: Richard POWNING bapt in Perranuthnoe C022231 (which covers 1781-1875) as son of Grace & Thomas POWNING - forgot to note date. Also Richard son of Richard & Elizabeth POWNING bapt 22 Jun 1817 in St Blazey.
