Howard Morcom NEUENDORFF (19748)
Family Code: St GLUVIASwilliam
BIRTH:
Q1 1896 in Lambeth SRY. Reg No 1d 450. In Free BMD as Howard Morcom NEUENDORFF
GENERAL NOTE:
It could be that Howard was a relative's child, the name MORCOM being taken from Clara's husband. More likely he was Julia's child by Henry SANDALL, the "Morcom" forename pointing to the father.

Julia Mary E NEUENDORFF (19057)
Family Code: St GLUVIASwilliam
BIRTH:
Q2 1877 in Strand MDX. Reg. No. 1b 620Census 1881: Julia E Neuendorff, age 3, dau., b. Soho, : 1891: Julia M. E. NEUENDORFF, 13, b. St Martins; 1901: Julia "NEWENDORFF", 23, sister-in-law, single, b. Charing Cross. It seems highly likely that the house owner was her brother in law Henry Sandall MORCOM who, at the time of the 1901 census, was at his regimental base in Portsmouth
RESIDENCES:
BEF 1881-AFT 1881: 22,Crampton Street,Newington,
BEF 1891-AFT 1891: 15 St Martins Court,St Martins in the Field,London
BEF 1901-AFT 1901: 34,Knox Road,Portsmouth,HAM
OCCUPATIONS:
BEF 1891-AFT 1891: Stationer's Assistant in London.
BEF 1901-AFT 1901: Milliner in Portsmouth.
GENERAL NOTE:
The naming of Arthur Harry M [maybe surnamed NEUENDORFF to avoid Henry Sandall getting into trouble with the local Army command], and Julia's move to Portsmouth, and the ownership of the house by her brother-in-law, all raise the question of whether there was a liaison between Julia and Henry Sandall.NB My assumptions about which of the children listed under Julia are hers may be incorrect. She may have been looking after some of her sister Clara's children. Moreover we cannot be certain that all the children are Henry Sandell's. Birth certificates need to be checked but some may simply name Julia [or Clara] as the mother. Arthur Harry M NEUEUNDORFF could be the child of a liaison with Harry Sandall, or with someone else but named after his guardian. Birth certificates, or the 1911 census when published, may resolve these questions. Arthur, Harry, Royston and Doreen were all born in a period 1901-1911 when Harry may have had no children with his wife Clara following a possible quarrel

CHRISTENED:
02May1790 in Whitchurch DEV. Son of Wm & Jane NEWCOMBE. It seems likely that NEWCOMBE in the baptism record and 1851 census CD are correct, and the transcription of the 1861 census as MORCOMBE is a misreading of the same NEWCOMBE family. DOUBLE CHECK CENSUSES before deleting couple

OCCUPATION:
BEF 1851-AFT 1861: Agricultural Labourer in Tavistock.
GENERAL NOTES:
Considered as possible father of george MORCOMBE who married Catherine Gibbs YELLAND. The only definite evidence for George's father comes from his marriage certificate which records his father as William MORCOMBE, labourer. It is always possible that this was a wholly or partly fictitious name if George was illegitimate. Wehave failed to find a marriage for William and Ann in Cornwall or Devon
On balance, I think it unlikely that William and Mary NEWCOMBE are the parents of George MORCOMBE, but have retained the record here so that this possibility can be kept in mind.
