After leaving the Army c. 1945 he emigrated to East Africa, and becamea groundnut farmer and also worked for the Kenya and Tanganyika Railway as an Engineer.He was a personal friend of President Kenyatta and was an invited guest at Kenyatta's son's wedding.After 37 years in East Africa he retired to Hartlepool with his South African wife. He could not bring his money out of Africa so the house was full of things he had brought with him from Africa e.g. ivory, jewellery, elephant foot umbrella stand etc. Even when he retired to England he still sent money on a monthly basis to his houseboy and his family who had looked after him.

GENERAL NOTE:
The history of the Henry Sandall MORCOM/Clara NEUENDORFF marriage is necessarily very speculative. They probably had four children between 1895 and 1900, but between 1896 and 1901 Henry may have also had at least three children with Clara's sister Julia whose household in Portsmouth in 1901 he headed. I believe that Clara had no children between 1901 and 1910 , a decade in which Harry may have had up to four more children by Julia.Clara's son Frank related that the family did not appear to be badly off in London, living in a large house, but there was no extra help to look after Frank and Elsie. He believed that Clara and Harry Sandall separated after Harry (before May 1904) hit Frank [who would have been under two at the time] and Frank fell down a long flight of stairs. Clara was carrying Elsie at the time. It is possible that this attack happened when Henry Sandall, who had returned from his 13 May 1902 to 25 Nov1903 overseas service, found that Julia had conceived two illegitimate children since he last saw her. Although the births of Frank and Elsie were registered as MORCOM, when Bernardo's sent them to Canada in 1912 they were named NEUENDORFF. When Henry lists his children in 1905 he does not name Frank and Elsie, but there is evidence that Frank was still in contact with his relatives including uncle Eric, shortly before his departure to Canada in 1912. Were Frank & Elsie handed over to Barnardos partly because Frank MORCOM would not accept financial reponsibility for them?After the separation of Henry and Clara c. 1901, no further children are recorded to the couple until Ivy Maud was born in February 1911. yet by the April 1911 Census Clara J Sandel MORCOM was describing herself as a widow. However, Harry Lawrence in 1912 and Dorothy May in 1914 were subsequently born to the couple. Clara died in 1917 but in his September 1919 army discharge papers Henry is still naming his wife as Clara "NUENDORFF"Clara's husband Henry Sandall MORCOM was the son of Elizabeth BRICE, Clara's maternal grandmother was also an Elizabeth BRICE. This seems more than coincidence, but we cannot yet see the connection between the two Elizabeth BRICEs.
