GENERAL NOTE:
Louisa's parentage is unclear. Her birth was registered in Q4 1870 as Louisa Martha MORCOM and she was baptised as Louisa Martha "MORCON" on 7 Sept 1871, dau. of Charles Edward and Annie Elizabeth, who did not marry until 8 Sept 1872.There seem to be two possibilities.1. She was the child of Charles Edward MORCOM and Annie Elizabeth KNOWLES who decided to get married two years after her birth because a second child, Thomas Edward, was on the way.2. She was the child of Annie Elizabeth KNOWLES by a different father.3. Louisa was the child of Charles Edward by a different mother. This seems the least likely explanation as Elizabeth KNOWLES would be unlikely to take responsibility for another woman's child a year before her marriage to Charles Edward.There is also a lack of evidence about what happened to Louisa Martha MORCOM after the 1891 Census when she was 19.Loreen KIDD informed me that Frank Henry had these aunts and uncles in England with the MORCOM name: Henry Arthur, Violet, Annie, Alice. His mother was said to be Louise THOMPSON and grandfather Charles Henry MORCOM.Charles Edward MORCOM/BE [01099] had daughters Alice, and Annie who married Henry G. KOLZ. Frank Henry, age 10, was living with this couple in 1901. Charles Edward also had a son Henry Arthur, and another son Charles George [m. to Violet Louis L CLARET] . So far, so good.BUT Loreen KIDD's family information is that Frank Henry's mother was Louise THOMPSON and his grandfather Charles Henry MORCOM (not Edward Charles MORCOM). I have not recorded a Charles Henry MORCOM in Louisa Martha MORCOM's extended family. If Frank Henry had been concealing his mother's name, he would not have named her family as MORCOM, so we can assume that the Louise (or Louisa) THOMPSON is probably correct.However, every spelling variation I have tried in the marriage records between 1891 and 1911 produces no husband for Louisa Martha MORCOM.I have found two leads, neither with sufficient evidence to be conclusive:The London Metropolitan records show a baptism on 2 Feb 1905 (the year Frank Henry left for Canada). This was of an Eileen Louise THOMPSON born in St Mark, Marylebone Road, Westminster to a Louise, whose abode was 2C ?H?ospital. [This may have been Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital in Marylebone Road] No husband is named and on the same page there are four other babies born in the same hospital without a named father. The Registry Office shows a birth of Eileen Louise THOMPSON in March 1905 in Marylebone and her death in June 1906 in Lambeth. But there were other Louise THOMPSONs around in London during this period.An anonymous note on the Internet says:"St Marks in Marylebone was used by Queen Charlotte Hospital mainly to baptise babies born to unwed mothers,the babies were actually baptised in the hospital chapel but claimed by St Marks.". Another contribution to the same discussion says "It is also worth noting that the references to Queen Charlotte's Hospital seem to stop when references to 2C Hospital start." The London Metropolitan Archives hold Admission and Discharge records for Queen Charlotte's between 1809-1993 I then found another tentative lead. This comes from the 1901 Census of Rosedale Farm, Balderton Lane, Coddington, Nottinghamshire where a Louisa THOMPSON, age 29, single, b. St Giles, London was a general servant (domestic) to John PICKSLEY, 63, farmer, b. Coddington. I cannot find a Louisa THOMPSON born in St Giles between 1865 and 1875, so THOMPSON may not have been her maiden name. Could she possibly be Louisa Martha MORCOM and maybe also the Queen Charlotte Hospital Louise THOMPSON?But in the lack of fuller evidence these are no more than ideas to be tested that I am floating!
