BEF Jun 1900-AFT Jun 1900: IL USA
GENERAL NOTE:
There is a slight possibility that the John R C MORCOMB (21657) of Cicero, Illinois in 1900 is the same man as John Henry R ichards who married Rebecca Edwards in 1881 in Breage. If the dates are accurate the marriage to Rebecca is difficult to reconcile with the marriage c. 1880 to Anna Mary L in the USA c. 1880, or the birth of Richard Richards 13 Apr 1883 and Elizabeth Jane c. Oct 1884, both in Breage, with the birth of Margaret in Nov 1882 in Illinois. However.Rebecca's husband was absent in 1891, and she was said to be a widow in 1901. Transatlantic passenger records need to be checked.I consider it most likely that two men were involved but there is a small risk of this being a case of bigamy

GENERAL NOTE:
Census 1871: shows Josiah 51 ag.lab.born St Martin CON and wife Christian 50 born Constantine, living and working with George PENDER 40 landowner b.Constantine and wife Mary A 45 b.Falmouth. Geoffrey WARREN comments that Josiah born St Martin in Meneage is probably an error, as this is more likely to be the place he hailed from before taking up work and residence at Penpol [anciently written as Pednpol(l)]. There were many MORCOMs at St Martin-in-Meneage (see also St Martin's Green), which is a village on the Lizard peninsula, and across the Helford River and up the hill from Durgan where Josiah was, initially, a fisherman before moving to Penpol. Penpol was a settlement of 2 farms and farm hands' cottages, and Durgan (see also Bosloe) a small fishing village on the Helford, are about a mile or so from the village of Mawnan Smith (Mawnan parish), 5 miles from Falmouth. Durgan is split by a stream to be both in Mawnan and Constantine parishes. (Higher) Penpol is in Mawnan parish: Lower Penpol is on the headwaters of Navas Creek and although in Mawnan parish is on the Constantine parish border.

1914-1924: Machinist in Melbourne.
GENERAL NOTE:
There is a Laura MORCOM b. 1892 in Victoria . V alerie COLLEY has Laura marrying an unknown WILCOX c.1913 and dying in Mordialloc Victoria in 1976. But the electoral rolls show "Laura MORCOMB" living with George and Annie MORCOMB in 1914, 1919 and 1924. It is possible that the roll entries were out of date but this seems unlikely as the family address changed between 1914 and 1919
