Kenneth MORCOM (01269)
BIRTH:
ABT 1853 in Rollands Plains NSW. "Aboriginal" is written diagonally across the top half of his death certificate in a different handwriting from the rest of the document. There is no section of the certificate which requires ethnic origin to be given except for the question "Where born?"
DEATH:
04Jan1908 in Purfleet Union Reserve NSW AUS. Reg.No.1908/003396. Children: "None living. One female deceased." Died of ?Entro? Colitis after an illness of ten days. He had last been seen by a doctor John W GORMLEY on 1/1/1908. His parents are listed as Henry MORCOM, labourer, & Sarah [?M]OGLAN Age at death: 55
BURIAL:
04Jan1908 in Purfleet Mission Cemetery, Taree. Taree District. The minister M.L.OLDRY[?] was an undenominational missionary. The witnesses of the burial were L.DUMAS and P.HART
RESIDENCE:
BEF 1903-AFT 1905: Purfleet,NSW AUS
OCCUPATION:
-1908: General Labourer in Purfleet.
GENERAL NOTE:
It is uncertain whether the Kenneth married to Sarah CRINTON is the same man as the one who died in 1908 and whose parents were Henry and Sarah.Rollands Plain was named after Captain ROLLAND who, in Nov.1824, selected the area in the Wilson River valley as a fertile place to develop for agriculture. An early 19th century red cedar timber industry was followed by free settlers cultivating the fertile soil for vegetables and crops to feed the convicts and soldiers of Port Macquarie. In 2000 a church meeting on "Sharing our Cultures, Uniting our Spirits" was held at the Aboriginal Philosophy Farm at Rollands Plain, which may suggest a strong historical aborigine presence.
