Residence Notes:
All three Australian addresses are from the birth records of her children. Her surname is given as CARTER in the 1891 and 1897 birth records
In the 1903 Post Office Directory of South Australia there was a Mrs Ellen MORCOM at 231 Sturt St, Adelaide. Could this be Ellen nee CARTER visiting relatives before emigrating to Canada?
OCCUPATION:
1890 Domestic Duties in Broken Hill.
GENERAL NOTE:
Both James and Ellen may have understated their ages when they arrived in Canada. I have found it very common for MORCOM immigrants to have been rejuvenated by the ocean voyage! Mine owners were more likely to employ the younger, stronger workers so miners, safely away from their birth place, often reduced their ages.Ellen was a member of a local United Grain Growers Womens's Club
