There is a long and complicated land indenditure, dated 24 August 1831 in which Louisa CHAMPERNBOWNE of Dartington House in the County of Devon, widow; The Reverend Robert Hurrel FROUDE of Dartington; Sir Antony BULLER of Pound, Devon; The Reverend William MARTIN of Pound, Devon and Jane his wife late Jane CHAMPERNOWNE and Henry MORCOMB, of the parish of Gwennap, labourer, witness that for a yearly rent Henry and his executors and administrators may occupy "that Waste plot of ground situate near Croft Handy on which a cottage was lately erected and the remainder thereof converted into a garden". It appears as if this seventy seven pole property was occupied by Charles PETT [who had married Mary nee Stanton the widow of Henry's brother Thomas MORCOM]. The Devon owners retained full control of any mineral rights, trees and saplings and water courses on the property.On Henry's death the right to rent the property passed to the family of Charles PETT. "If Charles PETT now aged about thirty five years Grace MORCOMB now aged fifteen years and Mary MORCOM now aged about thirteen years Daughters of Mary PETTor any or Either of them shall so long happen to Live UPON TRUST NEVERTHELESS to the only use of Charles Pett and Mary his wife during their natural lives and the life of the longer liver of them in Case the said term should so long continue and from and immediately after the decease of the Survivor of the said Carles Pett and Mary his wife Then upon Trust for all and Every the children of Thomas MORCOMB deceased (by Mary hsi wife now Mary Pett) and the Children of the said Charles PETT by Mary his wife for and during the residue of the Term of Ninety Nine years.The yearly rent was five shillings and six penceFull document in Cornwall-Gwennap file.
