GENERAL NOTE:
'Golden' is, in fact, a small manor dating back to Elizabethan times. It achieved some degree of fame in that, under a Royal Command of 1611, an Ezekiel GROSSE senr. received the estates of Francis TREGIAN jnr. which had been forfeited to the Crown by Francis TREGIAN senr. of Golden as a result of his having been tried at the Launceston Assizes in September 1577 and found guilty on a charge of high treason for giving refuge to Cuthbert MAYNE, a young Catholic priest, who was subsequently hung, drawn and quartered in Launceston.
