In 1851 the widow Catherine was living at Whitehall House with five of her children and two servants. By 1865 the house was occupied by John WATERS, a mine captain of East Downs mineIn her Falmouth house in 1861 Catherine employed two servants.

Elizabeth, dau.of Joseph MORCOM & Bridget nee SHORTHOSE refers to her FRANCIS nieces and nephews. She also mentions one great-nephew: Edward Melville Sherris FRANCIS but we do not know who his parents are yet.Whitehall, Chacewater is a name which figures prominently in the history of Joseph MORCOM and many of his descendants. However it is not always possible from the census and other records to determine if individuals lived in the small district of Whitehall or in Whitehall House itself. The 1/2500 scale map of 1881 suggests that Whitehall district consisted of:1. Whitehall House or Farm, a kilometre from Scorrier, on the road to Chacewater. This is the largest property in Whitehall district, and in 1984 was designated as a Grade 2 listed building on account of its age, architectural features [recently well restored by the present owners] and an unproved connection with the Hornblower family. The 1840 Tithe Map shows that the house and 18 acres of land was owned by Lord Falmouth and leased by William FRANCIS, a mining agent, who had married Catherine MORCOM, daughter of Joseph MORCOM and Bridget nee SHORTHOSE. Catherine and her family continued to live in the house after William's death until sometime between 1851 and 1865.Eliza Jane MORCOM and her family were in Whitehall in 1881 and in "Whitehall Hse." in the 1891 census. Eliza's husband Richard MORCOM does not seem to be related to the other Whitehall district MORCOMs. In addition there is an unknown Edward MORCOM who was an agent for North Hallenbeagle mine in 1862. We have been unable to find Edward in the 1861 and 1871 censuses of Cornwall.
